Department Member, Philosophy
Senior Research Fellow
About
I am a former occupational therapist turned philosopher, holding degrees in occupational therapy and moral philosophy. Since 2005 I lectured political philosophy, moral philosophy and applied ethics at Trinity College Dublin. In 2007-2008 I was a visiting fellow at the TCD Policy Institute (funded by Combat Poverty Agency Ireland) and the Centre for the Study of Social Justice (CSSJ) at Oxford University, and in 2009 a Visiting Professor in the Department of Sociology of the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
My main research interests are in the interaction of philosophical analysis and policy development, with specific interest in welfare reform and employment regulation (in
particular unconditional basic income), and more recently disability politics and public health issues. I am a Founding Editor of the interdisciplinary journal "Basic Income Studies", an Officer of the Association for Legal and Social Philosophy (ALSP), a Trustee of the UK Citizens' Income Trust (CIT) and have served for many years on the Executive Committee of the Basic Income Earth Network (BIEN).
